Accordion

A small, portable instrument, the invention of which is credited to Damien of Vienna in 1829 who patented the device. although its basic form was invented in Berlin in 1822 by Friedrich Buschmann.

The sound is made by operating a set of bellows which vibrate metal reeds. Studs (or a keyboard in the case of a pianoaccordion) allow different notes to be played, generally simple chords with the left hand and melodies with the right hand.
